ypres, belgium

arcade - ferry - flanders fields - table tennis - cherry beer - €8 sandwich - museum

First instalment of trip photos - there are literally so many of them and I didn't want to cause anyone any trouble with loading etc. All I want to do right now is go to sleep, my whole body aches! I've not long been home but I wanted to at least share some of these with you. Everything else is ready to post but I'm gonna try and space it out a bit!

Ypres (Ieper) has to be one of the most depressing places ever. There are literally graves everywhere, it's so haunting and you don't really realise how bad the war was (WWI) till you have to take all of the headstones in. It's quite horrible knowing that you are walking over dead bodies under the ground too. I'm glad we got to go though, I'll never forget it. Plus I discovered cherry beer, and it is amazing! Also the Belgians seem to have no idea what a single measure of alcohol is because they fill half a glass up with it. Needless to say it was a very messy night!

Like I said there are lots more pictures to come. Not expecting many comments on this as it must be quite boring and not very ~girly~ but anyway.. next stop: Paris, and then Disneyland!

  1. Wow, looks amazing! I've always wanted to go to Ypres after learning about all the poetry written there during the war.
    Some lovely pictures,

    Rosie x

  2. Looks like you had a super fun time, the rest of Europe is very generous with their alcohol portions I have noticed! Hope you have as much fun in Paris :)

  3. Look like you had a good time in Belgium! There's a really cool place in Glasgow called Bier Halle that sells loads of different beers and they have the cherry one. I had it before and it's so good - wish I knew where to buy it, like a supermarket or something.

Can't wait to see the rest of your photos xx

  4. Cherry Beer sounds awesome. I'd love to try it! And so jealous you're going to Disneyland! x

  5. Looks like good times! I love our local belgian beer cafe & have tried their cherry beer but I find it a bit too medicinal. Also tried a peach beer there - but it was so sickly sweet. Then I am more of a cider person so maybe I shouldn't putting my opinion out on flavored beers!

  8. I've been there on a school trip years ago. It was a bit of a surreal experience - reminders of the war everywhere. Imagine living there, you'd be seriously depressed. Saying that, I'd love to go back. X

  9. Mmmm! How did you like the Kriek (cherry beer)? It's good isn't it?

  12. I'm in love with your ring! Oo I want to Ypres and the Flanders Field museum a couple of years ago, I love the little slips you get so that you can follow your persons life through the war! I also had the alcohol issue too, I ordered two Bacardi and cokes and got 2 glasses of Bacardi and 2 bottles of coke!!

  13. I love Ypres, I went there about 7 years ago and I really want to go back again sometime. Looks like you had a good time!
