Rimmel's Stay Matte Pressed Powder, to my knowledge, is probably one of the most popular beauty products you can get on the high street. Generally speaking I hate a powdery finish on my face; it looks unnatural and I just think dewy skin looks so much better - perhaps because my skin has never been oily so lacks any hint of shine. However, I also hate the idea of product transferring from my face onto other things such as clothes and generally wearing down during the day, so I like to have some kind of finishing product to secure my makeup. I actually wanted the transparent shade but it's always out of stock so I plumped for the shade 'Peach Glow' instead, as other options sounded too dark or too pink for my skin tone.
I can't really see any colour from this powder when applied so I guess it's either a pretty good match or they're all quite translucent in colour - which I would say is a good thing anyway. It doesn't leave a powdery finish but just sets foundation and any other cream/liquid products, ready for application of powder bronzers/blushes. It's lightweight but does the job great and a quick dusting with a fluffy brush helps my base stay put for longer. Stay Matte is fragrance free so it won't irritate the skin or clog pores which is great for such an inexpensive product. The packaging isn't the best as I find the slot-on lid can come off really easily, so if I'm using it on the go I'll make sure it's stored safely to avoid any mess. I don't think that one little hiccup detracts from the products though, it's a great little product I'd recommend to anyone (provided there's a match for you - a limited shade selection is one of the main drawbacks of cheaper brands unfortunately).
Have you tried this powder? Do you feel the same as me in regards to finishing products or prefer to go without?

I've used this since I was about 13! Love it, a timeless product xo
ReplyDeleteHaha- an oldie but a goodie!
DeleteI love this powder it has been in my make up bag for years. Works well as a good cover up as well if your just poping to the shops without having to do full make up. x
ReplyDeletei love this powder! it's amazing!

I really need to invest in this product but always wanted the transparent shade. It sounds great and very reasonsably priced for what it is x

this was the first 'face product' i ever purchased when i was about 12 haha, i still love it now!

I love this powder and have used " 01 transparent" for about a year.. like you I don't like the appearance of powder but as I have combination skin I think this is perfect as it helps mute the shine a little bit on my oily forehead while it doesn't make the dry skin on my nose/cheeks look powdered. I love it!
ReplyDeleteive been using this for ages and i love it! i actually even prefer it to my mac msf natural and its just a fraction of the price! :) xx
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this - I have combination skin so always need just the tiniest bit of powder down my t-zone.

I've been using MAC's MSF Natural for years but I think it looks quite unnatural, I'd quite like to try a cheaper and more natural-looking one. Plus I've heard loads of good things about this one so I might get it :)

great review :) ive heard a lot of good things about this powder, but i dnt personally use face powder. & love that u included the ingredient list as well. but wow the ingredient list is terrible though.. it contains Petroleum almost at the top (that is like putting pure vaseline in ur face :/ ) then it contains mineral oil AS WELL & parabens and silicones.. i would never put that in my face :/
ReplyDeleteI love this! I've got through 5 of them! But I'm on love with the soap and glory glow it out I think it's called and it leaves a super glowey finish because its quite shimmery but it makes you looks so healthy! It looks like a blush because of the colour but it goes on very light on the skin! You can also use it as a subtle highlighter and the packaging is gorg!x
ReplyDeleteI love this product! However it's not talc free :( talc is the main ingredient which sucks cause I didn't want one with talc in but for this price I had to!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like an idiot now, the Boots description says talc free which is so confusing! I must have been sleepy haha. What a shame!
DeleteI've used this for years in transparent but as I have a normal skin type I don't really notice it. I think I want to try and get a dewy look to the skin, if you've got any posts on products that achieve that or if you have any recommendations that'd be great.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog,

I've heard very good reviews on this powder, many comparing it to high-end comparison's such as MAC. I'm in the harked for a new mattifier and I think this may be the ticket. Great post!

I come back to this time and time again, such a great product especially for the price.

I love this powder, it's one of my holy grail products! The only powder I use :) so affordable too :) xxx

always have to use a powder, this one isn't mattifying enough for my oily skin though unfortunately! :(

I hate the thought of having shiny skin so I always use powder. I like this powder. It's not my favourite but it does the job. My favourite powder has to be Facefinity by Max Factor.

I actually just bought NARS Sheer Glow and have been using this powder with it after hearing so much about it on blogs. I like it, but I have to say I much prefer MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation as a setting powder. It's just lighter weighted and feels better on the skin!

Noted, I'll add that to my shopping list :)
Delete:)
DeleteSo can this be used as a foundation itself or it's just a finishing powder? The packaging doesn't say much, but just from your post I'm a bit confused.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a cheap powder, I'll try this. Thanks for the review
ReplyDeleteI've used mine for a few months now (almost run out), and it's definitely a great cheap product. I live in Australia and it's surviving our ridiculous summer this year (even a 45 degree day!). One of the best products from Rimmel in a while (I've put off buying a new MAC translucent powder because of how well it's holding up!).
ReplyDeletei think i'd try this powder now that i've read from this post that it doesn't leave to powdery a finish. i hate a noticeably cakey face, though i have quite oily skin so a bit of powder is a necessity sometimes!
ReplyDeletehttp://perpetualdistraction.blogspot.com.au/
This is exactly what I've been looking for! I need to use a powder to set my make up, but I agree that a cake face doesn't look good. Such a lovely review so I'll definitely be giving it a go xx
ReplyDeleteWish I loved this :( used to use it years ago then picked it up again and for some odd reason it didn't sit right, grr haha

That powder is just great.
ReplyDeleteIn France it's like 10 euros when in London it's half the price, it's crazy. It is such a bargain for such a good product.
I've been looking for the perfect setting powder so I went out and bought this today. I can't wait to try it myself tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI bloody love this stuff, it's such a life saver!

I would love to try this... I currently use MAC MSF in Light, which sometimes makes my skin/makeup feel a bit cakey? I wonder if this would be better? :) xx
